Windows 8 was tested by Aware Bear in Pittsford NY. A final Release to Manufacturing (RTM) version of Windows 8 that became available to IT professionals was tested by us. This evaluation version expires in 90 days and cannot be upgraded once the trial period has expired.

The official release date for the Windows 8 is October 26th 2012, until then we will have to wait until the final product comes out and becomes available in stores and comes loaded into desktops and laptop computers. Once that is released, Aware Bear Pittsford will do another review of Windows 8 and compare the two versions.

Not a lot of new chances were done from the Release Preview from a few months ago to the final Release to Manufacturing. The only major change between the two Windows 8 versions was the removal of the Aero Glass Transparency from the Windows 8 desktop on the RTM release.

Windows 8 is an operating system geared towards tablets and touchscreen devices. The start bottom is no longer available on the desktop. Pc users will have to do a little bit of a re learning when using the new Windows 8. Once the new Windows 8 is complete, it will run faster and smoother than its previous version Windows 7.

Microsoft is combining its Mail, Calendar, People and Messaging, making it easy for users to consolidate the everyday tools under one roof and inside one operating system. Windows 8 also offers the power of Bing services.

There are only two versions of RTM Windows 8 for download, they work for either a X86 or a 64 bit version supported by desktop or laptop PCs. Devices designed to work with the Android and Web OS operating systems are not being supported by Microsoft at this time.

Microsoft has not released what apps and built in tools are going to be available on the final release of Windows 8. The Windows Store will have many apps available for download with full Adobe Flash functionality.

Until the final Windows 8 version is released we will have no way to 100% test the Windows 8 performance. Rumors say better battery life on laptops, notebooks and netbook computers. Microsoft is also trying to increase battery performance towards entertainment (music, videos and photos). Videos use a lot of battery power especially Blue Ray and HD movies.

The new Microsoft Office 2013 will not be bundled with the final version of Windows 8. Microsoft also has an Office 2013 Customer Preview available for IT professionals to download and try it out. We will be doing a full Office 2013 review in Rochester NY is a few weeks.
